What is the point of having a table if there is a table cloth?

If a table is always covered with a table cloth why buy a nice table?

Not everyone uses a tablecloth. Many people just use placemats under the settings to protect the table. Then everyone can see the nice table.

I agree with Stef. Those with taste use a nice cloth to protect the table during meals only and at most a runner the remainder of the time.

People who have nice and expensive tables, have no table cloth on their table when they're not eating. And when it's time for dinner they put a table cloth over it to protect it.
