It is hard to go wrong with ANY type of food at a party. When I first read the 'victorian/rustic/vintage/enchanted forest' bit a few ideas came to mind:
Main Course:
Beef Stew (can be dressed up or down depending on the party, and something that would have been served in victorian times AND is rustic plus dark).
Rotisserie Chicken Dish (for minimal cooking, and chicken is usually a crowd pleaser).
Turkey Legs (fun and victorian and rustic).
An idea to class it up a bit whithout being 'stuffy' is to try and make these into smaller dishes or appetizers. If you do the stew, you could go to a party store and get black cups (or whatever your color is) and serve it out of that. It will take the formality out of dinner but still keeps everything fun. Or you could just get smaller plates, etc, and put everything out on display on a table and let people eat at their leisure.
LOVE the idea of a dessert bar. Good Luck!
