So I'm going to host a party for approximately 150 people. I need ideas for food. I can buy it (maybe order from catering) or made it by myself but I don't want to serve cocktails. Please help me :/

This is the process I take for any catering gig, whether for work or for a private function/family wedding, whatever. Always ask lots of questions is the first rule. 150 people is a big gig for one person unless you do this for a living. I cook for a living and do 150 and lots more every day. You said you might hire a caterer. The caterer will ask you the same questions. Where is the venue, what is your budget, formal/informal, is there are theme, do any of your guests have allergies/food preferences (vegan, vegetarian, low fat, no salt, whatever). If you're doing this gig yourself, how much time do you have on your hand the days leading up to the event? And what is your skill level in the kitchen? Is it sit-down plated dinner or buffet style? What kind of access to chafing/serving dishes do you have, how much oven/cooking space do you have? Storage space leading up to (fridge etc) to hold food until ready to serve. Answers these questions and I'm more than happy to offer you some ideas, without answers to any of these questions it's impossible for me to offer food ideas with any sort of accuracy. I've been cooking for all my life since my parents pulled the chair up to the kitchen counter, and professionally over half my life, and my brain is always on foodie stuff, so that means I could sit here and suggest menus for days, but without any info from you I'm just shooting stray bullets.

Vera, trust me, save yourself a major headache, cater it out. We did 130 people, and regretted it, we didn't enjoy our own function.

The last function we had at home, was a welcoming home for me, there were 80 family and friends, My wife used the same caterer we usually call. They did a beef butt on the spit, plus supplied the salads and sides. Food only worked out to $9.75 per head, and it was excellent value.

Prior to that, we had a buffet 95 people, because there was the whole salmon and both hot and cold dishes, that was $13.45 per head.

This is the good part Vera, they supply all the china, cutlery and glasses, and take it away with them , and do a general once over clean up.

Make a big pot of chilli or curry, food that will fill people up and serve with rice, wedges, chips, baked potatoes. Also have buffet food - sausage rolls, quiche, sandwiches, rolls, pakora, vol-au-vents, as well as the usual - crisps, nuts, dips etc.

Just a selection of ordinary party food. But LOTS of it.
