Do you consider it tacky when you go to a party and they use paper plates?

I have about 50 glass party plates and I am thinking about getting rid of them. The last two cocktail parties we have used paper. I do not like having to spend so much time cleaning the plates. Everyone is always in the kitchen anyway and I want to enjoy my friends, not do dishes. I have a very proper mother and she would have never thrown a party with paper plates. What are your thoughts on this?

Well... that really depends on the party! Pros and cons of paper plates: paper plates provide the convenience of an easy clean- up while glass does not. If it was a family party that you were really comfortable and familiar with, I wouldn't mind using paper! They are inexpensive too! On the other hand, they don't look all that nice. Try putting out an extra buck or two if you wanted a touch of formality using one with designs. Glass party plates add a hint of extravagance to any party. If you are trying to impress a crowd, throwing a housewarming party, or something like a baby shower, than I would use glass. Also, glass is more sophisticated than paper... even looking at a person holding a glass party plate looks better than paper! Glass plates also make your food look nicer... it's all about the presentation for food. Unfortunately, you have to spend some time cleaning the plates, which I don't like to do either. but for that crowd of people that you want to impress- stick with glass. So, if you wanted to throw a cocktail party, that would depend on the formality! Paper- more informal, and glass- more formal. I would keep the glass plates if i were you! They would probably come in handy later, too!

well honestly its apparent that u and Ur mother are two different women, so how ever u feel comfortable is alright as long as the food that's going on the plate is being eaten who cares what its being eaten off of. paper plates for a party is very normal as long as its not like a really formal dinner party of like 6 guest, u know? so its OK the money u spent on 50 plates could have brought u 5,000 plus paper plates. think of it like this for every glass plate u can buy one bag of 150 paper plates, maybe two. lol

Paper plates are not inappropriate any more. When we have feasts paper is used and that is an old old tradition because a cooks pride is her dishes. Sign of the times!! People rarely gather any more and I think visiting is more important than the dishes.

I agree with you. Cleaning up day-to-day can be exhausting as it is, let alone after a party. Paper plates, especially fancier versions, are definitely the way to go.

Since you'd be tossing out so much trash, it'd be best to recycle those plates instead of just trashing them. You can party and "be green" at the same time!

I use the sturdy ones! There are simply too many on hubby's side to wash all those dishes! I know, been there!

Also, you can make it a bit festive by using colored plates. I used, Red plates, saucers and bowls with green plastic forks/spoons and knives. I chose read and green napkins to complete the eating utensils.

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with using these items as you are right...it is suppose to be about visiting and gathering together.

Personally, I would use paper plates, but if you have a dishwasher, keep the glass party plates. It depends on what you wish to do and how proper you want to be.

With paper, one can just discard them and be done.

it's fine. some paper plates look nice. it all depends on the party and your guests. if none of your guests complained , or offered to help do dishe sin honor of a glass plate;you are fine.

together as i could desire to appreciate the attraction of your thought in terms of saving funds and sparkling up attempt, i could could believe people who say it may be cheesy. You run the prospect of having your wedding ceremony travelers feeling disrespected. There are places obtainable the place you may lease genuine plates, glasses and cutlery for existence like costs. There could be no want so which you will speculate in china on your bridal occasion. some places will grant to and from the reception corridor. on the different hand, in the journey that your funds would not enable for rented china, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

What about using plates made from bamboo?

They are nicer than paper and much better for the environment.

Sorry! I am one of those people that love using the real deal! I just think that all around, the glass plates are nicer - easier for people to handle & looks a lot better. Yea, they're a pain to wash, but I always feel like they give my parties a nicer touch!

I would say yes, unless it was a formal occasion. And even then, they make a variety of disposable dinnerware nowadays that looks very nice...

Will you mother be there - and will she critique?

If so, weigh the options: Doing dishes or survivng mom's disapproving looks and/or comments...

No, but it is when people tell you not to throw your plastic cups away because they're gonna wash them and reuse them.
